UNION MARKET
REOPENED 2024
CAFE BAKERY
Address: 810 Union St, Vancouver, BC V6A 2C4
Union Market is back in business with a new owner and a new look. The popular Strathcona neighbourhood cafe shut down in 2023 after being in business for over 30 years. It was known for grocery, coffee, Pastel de Nata, even fried chicken!
Flash forward to 2024 and a new owner has stepped in to reopen the business with a fresh new look and menu.
The NEW Union Market has ditched the fresh produce and is focusing more on the Cafe and Bakery aspect with a South Asian twist and assorted products to-go.
Samosas are now on the menu! Still on the menu Pastel De Nata Portuguese tart.
The drink menu has espresso drinks, tea, and hot chocolate. It seems a bit minimal at the time of this post. The fresh baked goods that will catch your eye showcased on the counter.
Visiting the new Union Market you can see the new space decorated with Marvel comic books. The busy chef and bakery staff hard at work with an open kitchen. The baristas are friendly and chatty.
And there’s plenty more seating in front! The perfect bike stop on Union Street just down the street from Chinatown.
OVERALL
PRICE:
$ Similar to other cafes bakerries.
QUALITY:
GOOD! FRESH baked in house! Tasty veggie samosas, and chutney but could use more spices to give it authentic flavor.
The pastel de nata was good, but seemed a bit sweet dripped with sauce.
SERVICE:
OK! Friendly and welcoming. The chef is nice and funny/
VERDICT:
Overall, SATISFIED. The new Union Cafe is a nice refresh, with fresh coffee, and baked goods. It’s no longer the market it once was, but offers a nice place to sit and enjoy a drink and a bite to eat while supporting local.
They need to add more to the menu, and chai tea to compliment the samosas but you could just go to Sweet Cherubim on Commercial.
