WALKING TOUR
VANCOUVER’S BEST BEACH
SPANISH BANKS to LOCARNO BEACH
LOW TIDE APRIL 2021
Walking Tour at Spanish Banks! This walk starts at Spanish Banks and goes to Locarno Beach. On this day there is LOW TIDE! That means you can walk far away from the beach where there is usually water! Low Tide at Spanish Banks is popular for SKIMBOARDING!
There is lots of free parking along the road but can get very busy on nice days and weekends, especially during summer.
Spanish Banks is also popular for Kitesurfing / Kiteboarding on very windy days during HIGH TIDE.
The beach in Vancouver is sandy and rocky! On Low Tide days you can see many birds eating clams, and other shellfish.
Walking on the Low Tide! This part of the beach is called FORESHORE or intertidal beach.
Dogwalkers love Spanish Banks. The dogs like to run and play on the beach but they also scare away the birds! You can see Bald Eagles, and Herons here.
There are plenty of bathrooms, and food stalls at the beach. The Locarno Beach Cafe has Fish and Chips, burgers, and ice cream! All good prices as it’s run by Vancouver Parks & Recreation so they have good standards! Try the Salmon Burger!
Spanish Banks, Locarno Beach, and Jericho Beach are a MUST see for locals and tourists!
OVERALL, GOOD FOR THE FAMILY. Lots of parking. Downside, it can get busy. BEWARE of sharp objects like broken glass that might wash ashore in the wet sand. Wear flip flops, shoes. The rocks and shells can be sharp.
