THE DECLINE OF H-MART FOOD COURT
What has happened to the H-Mart food court? On a recent visit to the Korean grocery store I was surprised to see it has become a bit of a ghost town.
H-Mart is a popular Korean chain grocery store originally from New York. Started in 1982 in Queens, the store was called Han Ah Reum founded by Yeon Kwon.
The H-Mart location in Vancouver at Robson street has been a popular spot for groceries and the food court, but over the years it has seen a decline in food vendors.
In 2025, there are two vendors. One is Japanese vendor, the other is H Mart’s official food vendor who prepares the take-out food.
The food provided is still good value, and the take-out options are abundant for chilled sushi/kimbap, and hot food. However, it is such a change from what the food court used to be.
There used to be an independent Kimbap, and sundae blood sausage vendor.
