CAFE
INDIGENOUS IMMIGRANT CAFE / COVID ART CAFE (COMMERCIAL DRIVE)
BAGELS ICE CREAM
Address: 931 Commercial Dr, Vancouver, BC V5L 3W8
Is it a cafe or an art project? With a name like Indigenous Immigrant Cafe (formerly Covid Art Cafe) you have to wonder…
Wandering on Commercial Drive while waiting for a restaurant to open, stumbled upon this pink cafe called Indigenous Immigrant Cafe. It was busy with three customers inside waiting for an order.
Didn’t know about this place so decided to check it out to grab a quick coffee.
The smell as you enter is the first thing that hits you, and the warm musty air. The space is small with two small tables. It’s like an art project and cafe with a reputation apparently.

VERDICT
PRICE – $-$$ AFFORDABLE
– Expect to pay $5-$10
QUALITY – OK!
– Quality of bagels seem like they’re from grocery store.
– Strange smell entering the cafe. Not appetizing.
– Warm temperature no, ventilation.
SERVICE – OK!
– Was greeted with “What are you doing here?” in accusing tone by male server (I was not taking video at the time, so not sure why the person was angry). I did not know anything about this place or about the bad reviews and bad press before entering this cafe until after googled this place hours after.
After asking about coffee, ordering and PAYING the male server became less aggressive and said I can have a seat inside.
– Slow a bit of a wait to get food. Bagel came before coffee.
+ Food was brought out by a nice female Japanese server.
– The Uber Eats driver waiting for an order, ordered a coffee
and says it was cold! The male server offered to heat it.
MENU
+ Bagels and Ice Cream. Not sure where the Indigenous cuisine is but there’s bannock ice cream on the menu.
OVERALL – SLIGHTLY SATISFIED
+ A unique experience on Commercial Drive. Coffee and Bagel was basic but fine. If you like neighbourhood, small cafe, with character/attitude. Seems like they use grocery store bagels and don’t have proper industrial kitchen equipment to run the business.
Japanese female server was friendly.
