SAKU is a popular local Japanese Tonkatsu restaurant with two locations in Vancouver. In this video GUTOM EATS at SAKU BROADWAY. This location has been open for a few years now.

Tonkatsu is pork cutlet in Japanese. Unlike Tempura which is made with batter, Tonkatsu is BREADED and deep-fried. At Saku there’s pork on the menu and so much more!

THE ZENBU KATSU $33
Rosu, Hire, Chicken Thigh, 1pc Cheese, 1pc Ebi (Prawn), 1pc Hotate and 2pc Vegetables (Yam, Squash Slice). Comes with Rice, Miso, salad, sauces, and a side of Japanese pickle, salt and mustard.

Hire Katsu
Tasty, tender and juicy pork filet. So good!

Curry Add On $6
A tasty light curry sauce with no carrots or potatoes.

Combine Curry and Rice!

Cheese Katsu
Delicious melted cheese breaded. So good! Eat these while they are still fresh.

Chicken Katsu
Nice tender chicken.

Cabbage Salad
Shredded cabbage goes perfectly with the katsu. Definitely use the dressing for this salad.

Scallop Katsu
Very good for Scallop fans. 1 piece included with the combo set.

Miso Soup
Nice miso soup different from other Japanese restaurants.

Cheese Katsu Add On $6
More CHEESE please. One order is comes with TWO pieces of cheese Katsu and a side of cabbage.

Ebi Katsu
JUMBO prawn! Perfect with tartar sauce. 1 piece included with the combo.

Veggie Katsu
Squash and yam. Big piece but thin slice.

Pickled Veggies

Very salty!

 

Sauces are all delicious. Tonkatsu sauce is so good.

 

 

PRICE:
$-$$ FAIR PRICE. It’s Affordable and the Add-Ons are fair priced. Unlimited RICE, SOUP, SALAD.

QUALITY:
GOOD! Nice breading, and sauces. Rosu Katsu, Chicken, Prawn, Scallop, and Cheese Katsu were delicious. The Pork Lion was OK but not as tasty. Curry was OK, lacked carrots and potatoes. Had better curry at Fujiya Japanese Market.

SERVICE:
OK! Seated fast at lunchtime on a RAINY day. Lineup times may vary. NO RESERVATIONS.

VERDICT:
Overall, SATISFIED. The combo set is a good way to try a little bit of everything and the Add On prices are reasonable. Unlimited Rice, Salad and Soup will leave you satisfied. CHEESE KATSU WINS ALL.
