Wang’s Shanghai Cuisine in East Vancouver specializes in noodles and dumplings with authentic Mainland Chinese recipes. Perfect for the Lunar New Year, Year of the Ox! The small restaurant is located next to London Drugs in a strip mall and is CASH ONLY.
Their menu is pretty straightforward though there are no pictures of the dishes in the menu. At Wang’s they have noodles and rice dishes, pan fried and steamed dumplings, and buns all with fair prices. Wang’s is CASH ONLY!
Dumplings are said to bring good luck for Lunar New Year because they look like pieces of gold ingot! Xiao Long Bao is a type of Chinese steamed bun (baozi) that is originally from Jiangsu province.
Sliced Beef Noodles in Soup $10.75
Delicious noodles, soft chunks of beef in lightly flavoured broth.
Steamed Pork Buns (Xiao Long Bao) $6.75
Soup dumplings 6 pieces. Good portion size served hot! Mouth burn warning!
Pan Fried Dumplings $6.75
5 pieces of large pork and veggie dumplings with very nice pan fried texture on the bottom. Hand made in the restaurant.
During Lunar New Year eating long noodles means you will have a long life! You’re supposed to slurp the noodles unbroken! So eat up!
PRICE:
$-$$ FAIR PRICE. AFFORDABLE. Noodles cheaper than a bowl of Pho. Dumplings priced similar to other restaurants.
QUALITY:
GOOD! Made fresh, Food served HOT. Beef Noodle Soup pretty good. The beef chunks are soft, tender.
SERVICE:
OK! CASH ONLY. Pretty fast service and you can see them prep and cook in the kitchen.
VERDICT:
Overall, SATISFIED. Wang’s is pretty good for a quick soup and dumpling meal at a good price. Annoying they don’t have DEBIT.
