After 4 months of lockdown and renovations Uncle Willy’s Buffet at Metrotown in Burnaby is back with a brand new look. They have a new buffet system in place because of Physical Distancing.

The doors opened at 4PM, 30 minutes after their 3:30PM opening time posted on the door.
New buffet!
The buffet is no longer self-serve. The servers will make your plate for you cafeteria style. Most food on the buffet line are behind plastic sheets or in containers with lids.
New Salad Bar!
Nice presentation. The buffet items on the salad bar are now put on ice in glass bowls. Looks like they also streamlined the salad buffet with less items.

Spinach and Strawberries Salad!
Greek Salad!
Quinoa Salad!
Who said buffets were unhealthy? Quinoa is a solid healthy choice!
Hot Food Buffet
Breads, corn, carrots, egg rolls, mashed potatoes, fries, gravy, pasta, Asian noodles, salmon filet, rice, curry, chop suey, fried chicken, baked chicken and Roast Beef! Desserts apple pie, brownies, and ice cream.
The Uncle Willy’s fried chicken is a popular favorite it comes in drumsticks only. The roast chicken comes in thigh and drumstick. The recipe has been improved. It has a lemon pepper flavour to it which is very delicious!
Chicken curry and rice. There was also shrimp! The shrimp was good but hard to peel!
The soda fountain has been moved, and the coffee and tea station has been simplified. No more dessert shelves!
Dessert
Ice cream and brownie. Soft serve ice cream station is still there.
PRICE:
$$ AFFORDABLE! FAIR PRICE. Over $20 per person for Dinner. Under $20 for Lunch. This price is similar to other AYCE restaurants.
QUALITY:
GOOD! The salad bar was cold, and preparation is good with lots of ingredients used. The hot food was hot. Nice Salmon dish, fried chicken, beef roast, shrimp and roast chicken.
SERVICE:
GOOD! Service was good. Fast and friendly. Good explanations. Good physical distancing of tables. Fast plate clean up. All staff wears gloves and masks.
VERDICT:
Overall, VERY SATISFIED. Uncle Willy’s is back and better than ever! A solid buffet experience for a budget friendly price. Though it is not as cheap as it was before, it is fair and cheaper than many other buffets. There is a good mix of well made items on the buffet good for the whole family.
