CHURCH’S CHICKEN VERSUS KFC FRIED CHICKEN GUTOM BATTLE – VANCOUVER FOOD REVIEWS – GUTOM.CA

GUTOM BATTLE CHURCH’S CHICKEN VERSUS KFC – FRIED CHICKEN BATTLE / COMPARISON

KFC (Total $17.21)
6 Piece Chicken Regular and Spicy ($10).
3 Piece Chicken Tenders  ($6.39) 3pc is the minimum order.

 Church’s Chicken (Total $20.42)
10 Piece Chicken Regular and Spicy ($12.50 Promotion).
5 Piece Chicken Tender ($6.95) 5pc is the minimum order.

Chicken Tenders Comparison!

KFC Chicken Tenders, are consistently shaped,
seasoned with spices, and are lightly breaded.

Church’s Chicken Tenders, vary in size, and shape.
The breading is thicker, and crunchy.

Chicken Drumstick Comparison!
KFC drumsticks are smaller. The skin/breading is soft and not crunchy.

Chicken Thigh Comparison!
KFC thighs are smaller. The skin/breading is soft and not crunchy.

Church’s Chicken is more meaty, crunchy, has more batter.

KFC has the seasoning flavor. The breading, and skin are not crunchy.

KFC pieces are noticeably smaller than Church’s Chicken.

Church’s Chicken is the clear winner here. The portion size is larger. The breading is crisp, and crunchy, the chicken is moist, and you can tell that the chicken tender pieces are less manufactured / uniform looking, like they are cut organically by a human. The spice heat on the chicken was not hot at all, and easily tolerable.

Sure you can spend less at KFC, but the you get less quality.

KFC has the seasoning but not the freshness. The skin/breading of the chicken didn’t seem crunchy, the chicken meat has a funny flavor. The portion size is small. he spice heat on the chicken was not hot at all, and easily tolerable.

Winner of this Gutom Battle is CHURCH’S CHICKEN!

FAMOUS FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH AT RE-UP BBQ RIVER MARKET NEW WESTMINSTER – VANCOUVER FOOD REVIEWS – GUTOM.CA

Epic Fried Chicken Sandwich at Re-Up BBQ.

Re-Up BBQ at River Market in New Westminster is a popular eatery known for their Southern BBQ and Fried Chicken. They use ingredients made in-house, and sandwich buns sourced from a bakery in the same building. They started in 2010 as a food truck and eventually got a space in the River Market.

The previous owner was inspired by the TV show ‘The Wire,’ so he named the business Re-Up. ‘Proposition Joe’ Platter on their menu is named after the character from the show.

Note: We were invited to River Market to try the chicken sandwich. The meal in this video was complimentary. As a new low budget blog, we appreciate the kind gesture. However, as you can see from the video, the Chicken Sandwich is pretty awesome, so we will be making repeat visits to Re-Up using our own hard earned cash.

Famous Fried Chicken Sandwich
– Chicken Marinated for 24 hours
– Homemade Guac
– Homemade BBQ Sauce
– Homemade Chipotle Mayo
– Homemade Spicy Coleslaw
– Cheese
– Jalapeño Chili Pepper
– Bacon Smoked and Cured in House!
– Kaiser Bun from Pamola Bakery & Deli

This chicken sandwich is fully loaded with flavor and ingredients made in-house. Now that’s EPIC!

The chicken was tender, and the batter has a nice crunch with the bacon. The cheese, guac, bacon, coleslaw and sauces are an awesome combination.

The Kaiser bun was soft and holds all the ingredients well enough before getting messy.

The spicy coleslaw, and chili pepper has a mild spicy flavor and had no lingering burn. The other ingredients like cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce, mayo, and guac, overpower the spice which is good because you want to be able to enjoy the sandwich without a burning mouth.

Regular Fries
Pretty good, with some seasoning. The fries are thin cut with no potato skins. They also have Poutine Fries.

Sweet Tea
Very good. Definitely sweet. Order the lemon soda if you’re not a fan of sweet drinks.

Chicken Sandwich $9.75
Fries $4.75
Sweet Tea $2.75

Re-Up offers discounts everyday of the week for students, teachers, police and firefighters,
goofy outfits, and more. Be sure to ask about the weekly deals before ordering.

NASHVILLE SPICY FRIED CHICKEN AT THE DOWNLOW CHICKEN SHACK COMMERCIAL DRIVE – VANCOUVER FOOD REVIEWS – GUTOM.CA

NEW BUSINESS

The Downlow Chicken Shack is a Nashville-style spicy fried chicken fast-food eatery on Commercial Dr. and Venables.

Prepare for a wait in line as it is very popular!

The menu is simple. Drum, thigh, breast, or wings served a few different ways, with different levels of SPICY.

What We Ordered
Chicken On A Bun (Chicken Breast Burger)
Half Bird (Four pieces, drum, wing, thigh, breast)
Fries with medium spice.
Ginger Beer

Chicken Burger
(Mild spice)
Crispy, slightly sweet glaze on batter/breading. Mild spice was very mild forgot it was there.

Nice toppings pickle, Downlow sauce.

The potato bun is basic.Nothing special here.

It’s served in a box, and is very oily when you pick it up. The bar counter top we were seated at was covered in oil, so watch out when putting your phone on the counter top in front of the kitchen/assembly line.

Fries
Fries are ordered separate from chicken burger. Good amount of fries in a box.
Flavor is nothing special. Some sauce, but the style of fries doesn’t go well with burger. Reminded me of lloppy fries like McCain frozen fries. Needed ketchup.

(Skip the fries and try the other sides)

Half Bird
(Classic no spice)
Four pieces, drum, wing, thigh, breast
Good amount of meat to bone. Slightly sweet flavor glaze on breading.

VALUE:
Good portion size. Average prices. Could be cheaper.

QUALITY:
Good flavors and food temperature. Very Oily.

SERVICE:
Ok. Friendly. Slow when busy. Lots of tissue dispensers.
Cash, Debit, Credit.

BUMMER:
No soda fountain or water station.
Only bottled water, or bottled soda for sale.
Fries are not included with the burger.
Loud rap music with profanity during our visit. May not be good for children.

Overall, the chicken is the star of the show. Definitely worth repeat visits for fried chicken cravings. However somethings can be improved for the customer experience.
