PELMENI RUSSIAN DUMPLINGS AT HEY DUMPLINGS CHINATOWN – VANCOUVER FOOD GUIDE REVIEWS – GUTOM.CA

DUMPLINGS!

Hey, Dumplings — Vancouver’s most Trekkiest business offers European dumplings in Chinatown with a side of Star Trek, because why not?!

The changing face of Vancouver’s Chinatown has seen a boom of hip businesses in the gentrified neighborhood. Coffee Shops, Poke, Vegan, Vegetarian and now Russian dumplings!

The owner of the business is a big fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation!

Snack Pack Order $5
w/ side of sour cream $.50
Half Meat (Beef/Pork)/Half Potato with Spicy Ginger Scallion Sauce
TOTAL $6.49 w/ tax/tip

There are 15 Pelmeni dumplings in a Snack Pack order. The dumplings are similar in size to tortellini maybe a little bigger. The Spicy Ginger sauce was flavorful, made with vinegar, soy, oil, ginger and scallions sauce, topped with sriracha drizzle. Nice Asian flavor.

Pelmeni are dumplings of Russian cuisine which consist of a filling wrapped in thin, unleavened dough. The debate about the exact place of origin is still active, with Ural and Siberia both maintaining strong claims. Pelmeni are considered as the heart of Russian cuisine. Wikipedia

PRICE:
CHEAP! $5 for 15 Dumplings!

QUALITY:
Good. Fair portion size. The dumplings are boiled and have fair amount of fillings for their small size. Chewy soft texture with flavorful sauces.

SERVICE:
Friendly! Fast service.
Unfortunately, no additional complimentary condiments provided over the counter like a bottle of sriracha.

VERDICT:
Unique dumplings and tasty sauces worth repeat visits. This could get addicting! Good price, fair portion.

All You Can Eat Fish and Chips $14.99
Comes with bottomless POP! We were told the fish in AYCE is Pollock. Fried to order. Nice golden light batter. Pieces vary in size. Nice natural cut fries. All You Can Eat!

“Atlantic pollock is largely considered to be a whitefish, although it is a fairly strongly flavored one.[citation needed] Traditionally a popular source of food in some countries, such as Norway, in the United Kingdom it has previously been largely consumed as a cheaper and versatile alternative to cod and haddock. However, in recent years, pollock has become more popular due to overfishing of cod and haddock. It can now be found in most supermarkets as fresh fillets or prepared freezer items. For example, it is used minced in fish fingers or as an ingredient in imitation crab meat, and is commonly used to make fish and chips.” – Wikipedia

Prawn Madness $1.99 for 4 pieces. Not AYCE but still delicious!

PRO TIP: ASK FOR LEMON SLICES!
