The noodles are overpriced at $18.80! Costs a small fortune!

QUALITY:
Dim Sum is satisfactory overall but portion size compared
to similar restaurants like Western Lake seems small.

SERVICE:
Bad-Poor service. Asked two different servers for a second
serving of hot sauce. Neither of them brought any hot sauce!

VERDICT:
If you are desperate for Dim Sum in the mall
in a sit-down restaurant setting, this is your only option.
Other options are Neptune at Station Square, Crystal Mall,
or Chef Tony in the Food Court at Metrotown.

Nice salty broth. Good amount of soft beef pieces, with veggies.

Ok portion of fried rice. Could be bigger. Tasty.
Pork Chops contained bones, some pieces were fatty. Good flavor.

Instead of redoing the drink, they served pearls on the side.

Good flavorful dishes, but disappointed by the price

J&G Fried Chicken is a international chain of Taiwanese Fried Chicken.
This is the first location in Western Canada at The Crystal Mall food court, Burnaby.

Entire menu was 10% Off during Soft Opening.

We were told the price is based on weight. The Popcorn Chicken is made from chicken breast, while the Chicken Bites are chicken thigh.

Tasty salty seasoning. Non-spicy. Awkward to eat on a stick.
Ok portion. Seemed bigger than average buffalo wings.

There’s only one portion size offered.

There is also a spicy seasoning option.

December 1st is the Grand Opening, and we were told that there will be a really special offer for the day.

The Crystal Mall (also known as Crystal Mall) is an Asian shopping
center in Burnaby next to Metrotown Mall.

It is also connected to The Hilton Hotel of Burnaby. If you’re staying at the hotel the food court is easily accessible.

Crystal Mall has a very popular food court featuring international cuisine.
It can be intimidating for people visiting the food court.
What to eat? 
At the time of this post you will find Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian cuisine. Vendors may change. Quality may vary throughout the day.
It’s best to eat here at Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner time for freshest prepared food.

Nice amount of Tofu, beef, and veggies! The flavor is very good.

Grand Villa Casino, offered a FREE Thanksgiving
Buffet for Encore members on Oct 7, and Oct 8.

Basically, you have to spend money at the casino to get the complimentary buffet. Your dollars/ points are calculated each time you use the Encore Player’s card in a slot machine or table.

The free buffet was/is VERY POPULAR.
Free food, a perfect way to get people in the casino.

The problem: Over 1-2 Hour wait to put your name on a wait-list,
followed by a 2-hour wait to get a table.

 While waiting for the ‘FREE’ buffet, you end up spending money. Like a $6 beer at the bar or playing slots or tables.

The buffet opened at 4pm and at 6pm
the line was cut off and people were turned away!

Inside the FREE buffet, a nice variety of holiday dishes.
Ham, turkey, salmon, pork chops, and more. No Beef Roast.

The Buffet at Grand Villa is small, with limited seating.
The amount of food is ok. Desserts, drinks, cold, and hot food.
No sushi at this buffet.

PRICE:
The buffet is valued at $20. FREE with Encore Membership (Player’s card).

QUALITY:
All You Can Eat! OK sized Buffet. OK quality.
Turkey and pork chops were dry.
Ham, salmon, pasta were good.

SERVICE:
Extremely slow getting a table.
Food was replenished.

VERDICT:
Not the best quality but it is ‘FREE’ All You Can Eat Buffet,
Membership required. Very busy. Good for stuffing your face.
Show up very early before dinner hour 4pm.

Comebuy Bubble Tea is another chain Taiwanese Bubble Tea shop
that has popped up in the Lower Mainland. This one is in
Burnaby at Crystal Mall (outdoor access).

There is also another location in Kerrisdale.

One size offered, All large sizes.
Limited English on menu. Ingredients in Chinese?

QQ Milk Tea $5.50 – Large (One size offered)
Konjac Jelly at the top, and Pearls (boba) at bottom.
Some ice, but it was mostly milk and tea.

PRICE:
Typical bubble tea prices $5+. More than Starbucks.

QUALITY:
QQ Milk Tea was good. A bit sweet.
Recommend reducing sugar.

SERVICE:
Friendly, fast preparation.
The menu is mostly in Chinese but explanation
in English was helpful.

VERDICT:
Unique flavors, small menu with limited English.
Small shop, cramped, limited seating.

KOREAN CULTURAL HERITAGE FESTIVAL 2018 – VANCOUVER FOOD REVIEWS – GUTOM.CA

Korean Cultural Heritage Festival at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby August 4, 2018. A fun family event with entertainment, and food! There was Kukkiwon Taekwondo demonstration, traditional music, and even modern kpop.

What We Ordered:

Bulgogi $10
Beef and Rice. It was ok. Not the most flavorful, and the portion size was small for $10.

Deep Fried Dumplings (Pork, 5 Pieces) $5
Originally the vendor advertised 4 Pieces for $5 but they decided to add another dumpling. Good portion size, and at $1 a piece, good deal.

Unlike previous years at Korean Cultural Heritage Festival, the City of Burnaby didn’t have a drinking water station. One of the city employees at the venue said that all the water pipes were used by the vendors, thus no drinking water station. Very bad especially in the heat! There was only 1 drinking water fountain at the back of the stadium and a line-up.

Maybe in 2019, they will have the water station back. Buying bottled water from the vendors is not good.
